Aikido Center Sacramento offers comprehensive Aikido training in a supportive, non-competitive, and non-violent environment. We provide quality instruction in a traditional setting (dojo) for young people and adults who wish to cultivate their body, mind and spirit through the art of Aikido. With deep respect and gratitude we serve our community by “being the change we wish to see in the world”.

Aikido Training at a basic level focuses on the study of physical techniques to resolve conflict effectively without aggression or violence. In practice, students learn how to effectively anticipate, enter, and lead the attack to peaceful resolution. Although Aikido techniques can be utilized as a dynamic method of personal protection, this aim is considered a by-product of sincere long-term practice and not its primary purpose. As a student advances in training, the Aikido movements and forms become vehicles to cultivate a deeper connection with our selves, our partners, nature, and ultimately to unify with the universe. At this advanced level of training, Aikido’s Founder referred to the practice as “kami waza”, or training in Divine Forms.

At Aikido Center Sacramento our practice and philosophy is congruent with the teachings of Aikido’s founder, Ueshiba Morihei O Sensei. O Sensei taught that Aikido is the loving protection of all and everything. And, that the purpose of Aikido is to make humankind like one family. On the mat, we train with the utmost sincerity for the purpose of manifesting these teachings in our practice. In this way, we become capable of modeling for humankind a way of interrelating with power that does not take away from another. We become capable of generating an energy that supports and sustains life. O Sensei referred to Aikido as “shin no budo” or true budo.

“True Budo is the work of love. It is the work of giving life to all beings, and not killing or struggling with each other. Love is the guardian deity of everything. Nothing can exist without it. Aikido is the realization of love”. ~ Ueshiba Morihei O Sensei
